The Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council in partnership with N7 will provide athletes from the community an opportunity to develop their skill and build capacity in canoe/kayak, baseball, golf, soccer and lacrosse. Our goal is at the Geraldton location is to provide opportunities for our young people that will foster and enhance skill development in sports and recreation.

A week long sport-focused day camp designed to develop and introduce new skills to youth aged 12-16. Ideally concentrating on a couple mainstream sports participants may be familiar with, while also introducing a couple non-mainstream sports participants may not have had the opportunity of trying.

Heather grew up in Northwestern Ontario, with an avid passion for sport. She went to Concordia University for Leisure Sciences, which has helped her understand all aspects of why physical activities are so important.

Few things have the power to bring people together like sport. Victory is contagious. Defeat unites. And the concept of team – all sharing the same goal – creates an unbreakable bond among teammates, a community, even an entire nation. Sport has the power to change lives.

Objectives

  • Create an opportunity for youth to learn new and continue to devel op current physical literacy skills.
  • Create a healthy recreational activity to keep youth active through the summer.
  • Raise awareness of upcoming large scale sporting events; e.g. NAIG

Facilities

At Lakehead University, campers will enjoy extensive on-campus fitness facilities at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse and Hangar.

Sample Daily Schedule

  • 9:00am Morning Snacks and openings
  • 9:30am Activities and skill sessions
  • 12:00pm Lunch (please bring a bag lunch)
  • 1:00pm Canoe/Kayak, Golf, Lacrosse, Baseball, Soccer
  • 3:00pm Campers depart
