Sports Camps Canada is proud to announce a new partnership with OnPoint Athletics and OnPoint Beach Volleyball, led by founder Darren O’Neil, to deliver Nike Sports Camps across Ontario. Based in Kingsville, Ontario, OnPoint programs currently serve communities including Leamington, Windsor, Sarnia, Guelph, St. Jacobs, Barrie, and Aurora.
OnPoint Athletics is best known for its beach volleyball programming, while also offering leadership across multiple sports. In addition to beach volleyball, OnPoint’s staff includes directors in basketball, futsal and soccer, and pickleball, allowing the organization to support a wide range of athletic development opportunities.
Darren’s journey into coaching is shaped by a lifelong involvement in sport and a desire to create meaningful impact for young people. Before founding OnPoint, he worked in youth detention centres, where his focus was supporting those who needed it most. Over time, he recognized the importance of proactive mentorship and early intervention through sport. “The goal was to have an impact on those who need it the most," Darren said. The leading principle of OnPoint is to inspire youth to become the best versions of themselves, with a strong focus on personal growth alongside athletic development.
Darren has represented Canada as a coach at the Beach Volleyball World Junior Championships on three occasions and spent eight summers coaching with the Team Ontario Beach program. He has also coached with several respected volleyball organizations including KW Predators, South County Bandits, and Sky Volley, as well as the Riverside Falcons basketball club. Since launching in 2017, OnPoint Beach Volleyball has grown to serve more than 1,500 athletes each summer, while remaining committed to inspiring youth to be great on and off the court.
Reflecting on the new partnership, Darren shared, “The biggest thing that excites us about partnering with Sports Camps Canada is the reach. I believe that when two of the right organizations come together, they can create an impact more than twice that of a single organization.”
He was also drawn to Sports Camps Canada’s rapid growth and strong foundation, noting, “When something is growing that fast, it means that there are strong roots. In my experience, quality comes before quantity.”
Through this partnership, Darren hopes to deliver an experience that goes beyond technical training. His goal for the upcoming season is “an experience that helps the athlete grow in their sport; and most importantly, an experience that leaves the athlete feeling inspired, cared for and confident.”
Campers can expect high-quality instruction and gameplay in an environment where they feel safe and supported. As Darren describes it, “a mix of high quality training and gameplay in an environment that they feel safe and have a sense of belonging.”
OnPoint’s coaching philosophy centers on respect, mentorship, and belief in each athlete’s potential. Darren believes that sport is a powerful tool to help young people grow into strong, caring adults, while also giving them opportunities to become the best they can be in their chosen sport.
Looking ahead, Darren is excited to celebrate a milestone season for OnPoint Beach Volleyball. Entering its 10th year, the organization is looking to continue forward in the pivot from camp-only training to weekly training programs. OnPoint is excited to partner with Sports Camps Canada to bring top-quality Nike Sports Camps back to multiple locations across the province.
He also carries forward guiding principles he hopes to pass on to every athlete he works with:
“You are more valuable than the sport you play.”
“Anything worth doing, is worth doing well.”
