SCC Partners with 709 Pickleball

Sports Camps Canada Announces New Partnership with 709 Pickleball to Launch Nike Pickleball Camps and Clinics in St. John’s, Newfoundland

Sports Camps Canada is proud to announce a new partnership with 709 Pickleball to introduce Nike Pickleball Camps and Clinics to the province. The partnership marks an exciting step forward for the growth of pickleball in Newfoundland and Labrador, bringing nationally recognized training opportunities to athletes in the region.

The programs will be led by Head Coaches Nicole Carlson and Alison Hickman, the founders of 709 Pickleball. With a lifetime of experience in sport as players, coaches, and administrators, Carlson and Hickman created 709 Pickleball to help grow the game in their province through high-quality coaching, community engagement, and competitive development.

Both coaches hold NCCP Level 2 Pickleball Coaching Certification and have coached many players across the region. Their competitive experience includes Atlantic Championship gold medals and appearances at Pickleball Canada National Championships. In addition to their coaching work, Hickman serves as Newfoundland and Labrador’s Ambassador to Pickleball Canada and is a Credentialed Referee, while Carlson is President of Pickleball Newfoundland & Labrador.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Nike Sports Camps Canada because of the reputation and credibility that comes with the Nike name,” said the team at 709 Pickleball. “To align 709 Pickleball with a nationally recognized brand signals that high-quality pickleball development is happening right here in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The new Nike Pickleball Camps and Clinics will focus on strong fundamentals, tactical understanding, and building confidence on the court. Players can expect structured skill progressions, high-repetition drills, competitive gameplay, and instruction from NCCP-certified coaches in a positive and inclusive training environment.

“Our focus is always on strong fundamentals, confidence, and community,” Carlson shared. “Improvement happens when players feel encouraged and supported, not intimidated. We want every camper to leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.”

Programs will take place at some of the province’s top pickleball facilities, giving players access to high-quality courts while connecting them with the growing local pickleball community. The camps aim not only to develop skills but also to help athletes build relationships and find opportunities to continue playing in leagues, clinics, and tournaments across the province.

As one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada, pickleball continues to attract athletes of all ages. Through this partnership, Sports Camps Canada and 709 Pickleball are committed to creating new pathways for player development while strengthening the sport’s presence in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“This partnership allows us to bring world-class energy, structure, and opportunity to players in our own backyard,” said the 709 Pickleball team. “Confidence starts here.”

Nike Pickleball Camps and Clinics in St. John’s are expected to launch in the coming months, offering athletes a unique opportunity to learn, compete, and grow in the sport.
