Coaches

Jason Knight
Camp Director

My name is Jason Knight, and I have been coaching basketball for 23 years and playing for 30 years. I learned early on in my high school career after a knee injury would redirect my athletic career, that coaching was my passion. I grew to appreciate the complexities of the game by being mentored by BC High School Sports Hall of Fame coach Greg Leino. I began coaching the grade 8 boys’ team at Delta Secondary School and led that team to the district final as a junior. Many of my players have gone on to play professionally all over the world. I have since coached for Canada Basketball, Basketball BC, Toronto Raptors Youth programs, including NBA Canada’s World Basketball outreach program. I have assisted with the Raptors Training Camps 2017 and 2018 as a shooting coach working with Toronto Raptors and Raptors 905 players. My work with NBA Canada led to me being contacted by former Raptor Danny Green to assist with running his two day camp of just over 200 campers. This was the largest basketball camp run in BC to date. I most recently was Director of Coaching for the South Delta Basketball Association, responsible for developing young and new coaches. As strategic director of their club program, SDBA became the largest youth basketball program in the Lower Mainland with over 550 players. Our U16 and U13 boy’s teams have won numerous local club tournaments. I am Learn to Train Certified and Train to Train trained with Canada Basketball. Representing Vancouver Coastal, my 2018 BC Summer Games U14 girls finished 4th. With my move to Vancouver Island, I will continue to support the growth of basketball through my affiliation with Flight Basketball. I specialize in in-game strategy, elite skill development, and basketball decision making, with a focus on the alignment with the Long Term Athlete Development model established by Canada Basketball. I look forward to working with the athlete on their pursuit of excellence.

Michael Acheampong
Coach

My name is Michael Acheampong. I am a coach and program director of Flight basketball academy here in Victoria, British Columbia. I started my collegiate career at Humber College, Humber is well known for its prestigious varsity programs. I played three successful years for the Hawks (2008-2011). I accomplished something rarely seen in college sport, and that was winning OCAA Provincial championships in each of my three years at Humber. During the 2009-10 season, I led the Hawks to a CCAA Bronze medal. I was twice named an OCAA all-star and was the 2011 OCAA championship most valuable player. A few years later, I was inducted into the Humber College Hall of Fame. I transferred to pursue my collegiate playing career at the University of Victoria (2011-2013). I had two successful seasons where I was a starter on a top ten team in the nation both years. The team qualified for nationals both years and, in my last year, played in the conference final, where the team just fell short of gold. After my collegiate career, I tested out the professional circuit from trying out for the G-league team Canton Charge, NBL of Canada, and going on a pro tour where I played games in China. I signed my First pro contract in 2017 playing in the NBL of Canada for the Windsor Express. I have been coaching and running individual and group training for a few years now with the primary goal of sharing my passion and growing the game of basketball on the island.
