CAMP DETAILS

Nike Beach Volleyball Camp   Weekly Schedule

Day One: Monday  - 400 North Beach Courts

  • Introduction and Orientation (Rules)
  • Find Your Serve Style: Serving Strategies
  • Passing & Serve Receive
  • Essential Warm-Up: Kickstart each session with vital cardio and stretching techniques to prepare your body for action.
  • Serving: Learn various serving techniques to initiate play with power and precision.
    • Find Your serve Style: Serving Strategies
      • The serve is one of the most important aspects of the volleyball game! Once a player gets comfortable and develops accuracy, it’s time to serve with intention! A good server knows how to make the job of the opposing passer a lot more difficult by serving to spots on the court at different speeds and locations.
  • Passing & Serve Receive: Develop a solid platform for consistent and accurate passing
  • Classroom Learning and Refreshments 10:30am-11:00am
  • Decode the Beach Game: Understand the fundamental rules of beach volleyball, which share a strong foundation with indoor volleyball but with unique twists. Learn about the three-touch rule, scoring (best of three sets, first two to 21, third to 15), side changes, and the crucial two-point win margin in the final set.
  • Play Smart, Play Together: Discover the unique physical allowances of beach volleyball, including the ability to use any body part (even your foot!) to return the ball (excluding throwing, holding, or catching – serving remains an arm-only skill). Most importantly, learn the absolute necessity of communication between you and your teammate. With only two players on the court, clear and constant communication is your secret weapon for avoiding collisions and maximizing your chances of victory.
  • Camp Games: Skill-Building Games
  • 2-on-2 Rally Play with "Help"
    • How to Play: Play regular 2-on-2, but allow for a "help" touch if a player is really struggling. For example, if a pass is really off, the other player can use their foot or a quick hand touch to save it, as long as the team still gets it over in 3 contacts. Or, allow a "re-set" if the set is bad.
    • Why it's fun: Reduces frustration, keeps rallies going, and allows players to practice skills in a game-like setting without being overly penalized for mistakes.
  • Serve & Catch
    • How to Play: One player serves (underhand or overhand). On the receiving side, players try to catch the serve. If they catch it cleanly (no drops, no fumbles), they get a point. If they drop it or miss, the server gets a point. Rotate servers and receivers.

Day Two: Tuesday - 400 North Beach Courts

Special Guest Coach: Julie Mota - Professional Volleyball Player

  • Essential Warm-Up: Kickstart each session with vital cardio and stretching techniques to prepare your body for action.
  • Stretching: To prepare for a volleyball game or practice, it's crucial to include dynamic stretches like high knees, butt kicks, and leg swings to warm up the muscles and improve flexibility and range of motion. Static stretches, like quad stretches, hamstring stretches, and triceps stretches, can also be beneficial, but should be performed after dynamic stretches.
  • Julie will tackle the crucial differences between indoor and beach, emphasizing how the sand surface impacts movement, jump height, and endurance. Learn practical tips and exercises to build your sand legs and move with agility and confidence.Skills Honed, Fun Amplified: Say goodbye to monotonous drills! We inject high-energy mini-games into our skill-building sessions, ensuring practices are not only effective but also incredibly enjoyable. Get ready to learn and laugh as you develop your game!
  • Classroom Learning and Refreshments 10:30am-11:00am
  • Defensive Skills (Diving & Sliding):
    • Embrace the sand and learn essential diving and sliding techniques to keep rallies alive.
    • Diving and sliding are essential defensive skills in beach volleyball, allowing players to cover more court and keep "unreachable" balls in play. While the sand provides a softer landing than indoor courts, proper technique is still crucial to avoid injury and maximize effectiveness.
    • Sliding is a broad term that encompasses the controlled movement across the sand to get to a ball. It's often intertwined with diving but can also refer to shuffling or gliding laterally or backwards to cover court without fully leaving your feet.
  • Scrimmage: practice diving and sliding 12:00pm-1:00pm

Day Three: Wednesday - **Location Cenntenial Beach Waterfront Courts Barrie** (If raining 400 North beach Courts)

  • Fundamentals of Beach Volleyball: Attacking & Blocking
    • Attack Options (Hitting/Spiking): Explore different hitting and spiking techniques to put the ball away with authority. Attacking in beach volleyball is a dynamic and crucial skill that differentiates good players from great ones. Unlike indoor volleyball, where powerful spikes are often the primary focus, beach volleyball emphasizes a diverse array of shots and strategic placement due to the smaller court, fewer players, and challenging sand conditions.
    • Blocking: Learn both offensive and defensive blocking strategies to shut down your opponents.
  • Classroom Learning and Refreshments 10:30am-11:00am
  • The Quarterback of the Team: Le Setter
    • Learning how to perfect your setting skills is crucial in the game of volleyball. The setter is responsible for setting up the perfect play on the attack. Every player should know how to make a good set legally and efficiently because a Middle Blocker, Outside Hitter, or Opposite Hitter could find themselves in a position where they need to step in.
  • Scrimmage Practice Setting 11:30am to 1:00pm
    • Footwork and Position
    • Hand and Finger Position (The "Window")
