Nike Running Camp Windsor

Nike Distance Camp at Malden Park is for young athletes who want to learn the fundamentals of cross country while giving them a sense of what is it like to train/compete in high school and at the collegiate level. This camp offers top fundamental skills training while fostering a safe, inclusive, and competitive environment. This camp offers expert coaching and instruction from college coaches and student-athletes, as well as the opportunity to experience a variety of training concepts. Classroom lectures on current running issues include exercise physiology, aqua running, plyometrics, strength training, injury prevention, establishing goals, visualizing success, racing tactics, training shoe and racing spike selection, training technique, and nutrition.

Meet and greet with Olympians and Canadian Record Holders Brandon McBride & Melissa Bishop. Also, guest appearances from USA collegiate and Canadian collegiate coaches to be named soon.

Brandon McBride
Coach

Brandon McBride broke the 10-year-old Canadian record in the 800m in July 2018 when he ran 1:43.20 at a meet in Monaco. Less than a month later, he won gold at the NACAC Championships in Toronto. McBride had made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016 where he was a semifinalist in the 800m. The next year, he competed at his first World Athletics Championships, where he reached the 800m finals and finished eighth. Mississippi State University, McBride won the 2014 NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the 800m. Ranked number one nationally, he ended the season undefeated. In 2015 McBride finished fourth indoors and sixth outdoors at the NCAA Championships. He was also a member of the Mississippi State 4x400m relay team that finished third. He finished his collegiate career coming in second place at the NCAA outdoor Championships. He was a nine-time All-American, and was named to the SEC Honor Roll all four years.

Melissa Bishop-Nriagu

Melissa Bishop-Nriagu won 800m gold at the Pan American Games in Toronto, and she went to the World Athletics Championships where she broke the 14-year-old national record in the distance, becoming the first Canadian to go below one minute 58 seconds with her time of 1:57.52. After that spectacular semifinal, she went on to win the silver medal in the final.

Bishop-Nriagu made her Olympic debut at London 2012, the same year she first broke the two-minute mark in the 800m at the Prefontaine Classic. In her second Olympic Games at Rio 2016, Bishop-Nriagu lowered her own national record to 1:57.02 but finished a heartbreaking fourth in the 800m, matching Canada’s best ever Olympic result in the event. In 2017 she won her second straight national title in the 800m and her fourth overall before lowering the national record to 1:57.01 at the Diamond League meet in Monaco. At the World Athletics Championships, she ran under 1:58 to finish fifth. At Tokyo 2020, Bishop-Nriagu was unable to advance from the first round of the 800m but revealed afterwards that she had injured her hamstring just a week prior. While representing the University of Windsor Lancers, Bishop-Nriagu won multiple gold medals in the 600m and 1000m at the CIS Championships.

CAMPER EVALUATION

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. In addition, campers will be evaluated and then split up into smaller groups according to age and ability.

REGISTRATION PACKET

A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, camp specifics, and a list of things to bring, will be emailed to all campers prior to their camp date.  If you have any questions/inquiries please email info@sportscampscanada.com.
