Robert Pinheiro Soccer
Coach

Was on the McMaster University Ontario winning team of 1977 as a rookie. Had to retire from playing due to lack of cartilage in left knee.

Started coaching house league in Durham at Bay Ridges S.C. in 1975.

Was offered a rep. team at Oshawa Turul S.C. in 1976 with the 11 year old boys.

First year I travelled to Mexico and won the age group tournament in Mexico City.

The next 4 years qualified for the Ontario Championship Semi Finals 2 times and Finals once.

Lost the finals in 1979 on penalty kicks.

In 1981 , WON the Ontario Championship on penalty kicks. That same year went on to win Eastern Canadian Championships and travelled with Western Canadian Champions to San Jose to compete for the North American Championships. Lost Canadian Championship in overtime to B.C. Next day they beat the Texas Longhorns( US runners up) for 3rd. place in North America 6-3. Note that Philadelphia won the US championship by beating Texas on penalty kicks.

Coached that first Oshawa Turul rep. team all the way to under 21. Never had a child on it. Always other people's kids which spoke to my love for the game.

We won tournaments throughout Quebec, Ontario , and Virginia USA.

As an under 21 team, played in the highest Amateur league at the time and made the playoffs for the first time by any team in Durham in that league.

Then started coaching my youngest son in Clarington S.C. in Durham in 2012.

Won some tournaments, got to the semi-final of the largest minor soccer tournament in N.A in Minnesota , on our way beating the under 13 team of Mexico’s Cruz Azul professional club. Unfortunately, only got to 1/4 final of Ontario Championship as the age of Academy soccer with in effect all-star teams the new landscape. Took the team in 2013 to Barcelona for an under 18 tournament where they lost 1-0 in the final to the Under 18 team of Rayo Vallecano of La Liga  Spain.
