Coaches

Kirk Melhado
Head Coach

Kirk Melhado is a highly experienced volleyball coach and former competitive player with over a decade of involvement in the sport, including six years in the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA).

As a player, Kirk competed at a high level across multiple OVA clubs, including Markham Stingers, Leaside, Durham Attack, and Titans. He played primarily as a left-side and right-side hitter, later transitioning to libero and left-side during his final year in the OVA. He continued his playing career at the post-secondary level, competing in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) as a libero for Durham College.

Kirk’s coaching journey began early, starting in middle school, where he mentored younger teammates and developed a passion for teaching the fundamentals of the game. By Grade 8, he was serving as the acting head coach of his school’s junior co-ed team, leading them to regional qualification. Throughout high school, he remained deeply involved in coaching, assisting with senior and junior boys’ and girls’ programs, gaining experience across age groups and competitive levels.

After a brief pause in coaching to focus on his collegiate playing career, Kirk returned to the sidelines in 2020 as a head coach with Venom Volleyball, where he spent three seasons coaching both girls’ and boys’ teams. He later joined Leaside Volleyball Club, coaching under an experienced mentor, before moving to Titans Volleyball, where he continues to coach and develop athletes under his current mentorship.

Kirk is known for his player-centered coaching philosophy, strong technical foundation, and commitment to long-term athlete development. Looking ahead, his long-term goal is to establish his own volleyball club in Ontario, focused on accessible athlete development, coach mentorship, and building strong fundamentals from the grassroots to the competitive level.
