Nike Sports Camps Canada is proud to announce that Team Canada athlete Daneesha Provo has teamed up to present Nike Basketball Camp in Nova Scotia. This exciting partnership brings together an esteemed basketball player with one of the most respected development camps in Eastern Canada.
A proud native of North Preston, Daneesha’s journey is one defined by resilience, excellence, and purpose. She represented Team Canada from 2013 to 2018, competing on the international stage for eight years and establishing herself as one of Atlantic Canada’s most accomplished athletes. She was selected to the Olympic Trials roster, but a torn Achilles in practice prevented her from competing.
She went on to play NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Utah, where she became a standout athlete and one of the region’s most impactful players. Her leadership, discipline, and competitiveness helped pave the way for an extraordinary basketball career.
As the founder and CEO of the Daneesha Provo Canadian Basketball Academy (DPCBA), Daneesha has transformed her passion for the game into a powerful platform for empowering young women. Through her academy, she uses basketball as a connector for leadership, education, mentorship, and personal growth across Atlantic Canada, creating opportunities that extend far beyond the court.
Daneesha is connected within the global basketball community. Through her relationships with professional players, national team members, elite trainers, and international coaches, she plans to bring world-class talent to Nova Scotia. By featuring these guests at her camps and programs, she aims to elevate the standard of training, increase exposure, and put Nova Scotia’s young athletes on the map in a powerful way.
Her professional basketball journey has taken her across the world, competing in Germany, Greece, Spain, China, and Australia, and traveling to more than 20 countries through the opportunities basketball provided. Despite career-changing injuries including an ACL tear in 2019 and an Achilles tear in 2021 just two weeks before the Olympics. Daneesha turned every setback into a setup for something greater. Out of adversity, she built a movement that inspires young athletes to chase their dreams and never give up.
“Work hard, respect others, and have fun.”
A life principle taught to her by her father, Danny Castillo, her biggest supporter and influence. His guidance shaped her through NCAA basketball, Team Canada, and her professional career, and continues to inspire the way she coaches and mentors young athletes today.
Today, Daneesha is not only a former professional athlete and national team member, but also a motivational speaker, mentor, entrepreneur, and community leader. Her story uplifts youth and audiences everywhere, teaching the power of faith, hard work, and living with purpose.
“This partnership is historic. We are the first Nike Basketball Camp partnership in Nova Scotia, and that moment means so much for our province. What excites me most is expanding access. Through this partnership, I will be hosting camps across Nova Scotia to reach different communities and ensure athletes both girls and boys receive equal opportunity to experience high-level Nike programming. It’s a transformational step for our youth and our basketball culture.”
