Professional Athlete Daneesha Provo & Daneesha Provo Canadian Basketball Academy (DPCBA) Joins Forces With Nike Sports Camps Canada

Nike Sports Camps Canada is proud to announce that Team Canada athlete Daneesha Provo has teamed up to present Nike Basketball Camp in Nova Scotia. This exciting partnership brings together an esteemed basketball player with one of the most respected development camps in Eastern Canada.

A proud native of North Preston, Daneesha’s journey is one of resilience and purpose. At just 14 years old, she left home to chase her basketball dreams, earning an academic scholarship to attend Kent Preparatory School in Connecticut (one of the top boarding schools in the United States). There, she became the all-time leading scorer with over 1,782 career points, laying the foundation for an extraordinary career.

She went on to play NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Utah, where she earned two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Science (Child Life) and Sociology with a minor in Disabilities Studies. Her success on the court and in the classroom made her one of Atlantic Canada’s most accomplished athletes and student leaders.

As the founder and CEO of the Daneesha Provo Canadian Basketball Academy (DPCBA), Daneesha is a former professional basketball player who represented Team Canada from 2013 to 2018 and was selected to the Olympic team trials roster, but was unable to compete due to a torn achilles tear she did in practice. Through her academy, she has turned her passion for basketball into a powerful platform for empowering young women using the game as a connector for leadership, education, mentorship, and personal growth across Atlantic Canada.

Her professional basketball career has taken her around the world competing in Germany, Greece, Spain, China, and Australia, and traveling to more than 20 countries through the opportunities basketball has given her. Despite facing career-changing injuries including an ACL tear in 2019 and an Achilles tear in 2021, just two weeks before the Olympics, Daneesha turned every setback into a setup for something greater. Out of adversity, she built a movement that inspires young athletes to chase
their dreams and never give up.

"'Work hard, respect others, and have fun.' a life principle from my father, Danny Castillo, who has been a huge reason for my success on and off the court. His guidance shaped me through NCAA, Team Canada, and professional basketball, and continues to influence how I coach and mentor young athletes today."

Today, Daneesha is not only a professional athlete, national team member and entrepreneur, but also a motivational speaker, mentor, and community leader. Her story
continues to uplift youth, athletes, and audiences everywhere teaching the power of hard work, and purpose.

"This partnership is historic. We are the first Nike Basketball Camp partnership in Nova Scotia, and that moment means so much for our province. What excites me most is expanding access. Through this partnership, I will be hosting camps across Nova Scotia to reach different communities and ensure athletes both girls and boys receive equal opportunity to experience high-level Nike programming. It’s a transformational step for our youth and our basketball culture."
